Residency Admissions

We specialize in Caribbean and international medical school graduates.

Admissions Consulting

MDadmit, led by Dr. Miller, knows what residency programs look for in candidates. Dr. Miller has served on residency admissions committees and knows the process from the inside. Residency admissions can be even more challenging than medical school admissions. MDadmit can help.

The best way to start with MDadmit is to sign up for one of the Academic and Accomplishment Review + Strategy Sessions with Dr. Miller. Prior to this session, Dr. Miller will review your resume, transcripts, and any application materials you have prepared. The session can then be used in any way you like - to receive advice on where you stand and what you need to do to improve your chances of matching, to ask specific questions, to determine whom to ask for recommendations, to brainstorm the personal statement or ERAS application, etc. Here are the items most commonly discussed in MDadmit's residency admissions consulting strategy sessions:

Application Analysis
Given her experience as an residency admissions committee member, admissions consultant, professor at two universities, and admissions interviewer, Dr. Miller has the inside knowledge to help you improve your residency application and achieve success. MDadmit performs a thorough review of your academic, extracurricular, research, and community service activities and provides specific advice on how to enhance your residency application. We also provide an honest assessment of your chances of gaining acceptance to the field of your choice.

Recommendation Selection
Recommendations are a vital yet often overlooked part of the residency application. Deciding whom to ask for recommendations is only the beginning of this important process. MDadmit assists you with all aspects of obtaining residency recommendations including whom, how, and when to ask.

Where to Apply/Match List
Residency applicants often underestimate the competitiveness of residency programs and apply to fewer programs than required to maximize success. MDadmit will review and comment on your list of residency programs based on the strength of your application, long-term goals, and location desire. We also help strategize residency match list rank.

SOAP Strategy
Not matching is every residency applicant’s worst nightmare. If you are forced into the Post-Match Supplemental Offer & Acceptance Program (SOAP), MDadmit works with you to develop a formal strategy to maximize your post-match chances.

Admissions consulting is performed via Skype, phone, and e-mail
In-person consultation is available on a case-by-case basis
E-mails requiring greater than five minutes for response are charged at the hourly fee
Phone calls are charged at a minimum of 30 minutes

Essay Editing
Residency program directors read hundreds of applications each year. How will your application stand out? At MDadmit, we use an editing team led by Dr. Miller, a published author who has spent the last decade editing hundreds of residency personal statements and ERAS applications. Unlike other editing services that simply provide general comments, MDadmit provides comprehensive edits and works closely with you to improve your writing skills.

ERAS Personal Statement
The ERAS personal statement is your time to shine. In about a page, you have to explain why you are entering a specific medical field. And you must do this in a compelling, creative, and honest way. Not an easy task! Our editing team helps turn your personal story into a unique and persuasive statement.

The MDadmit ERAS personal statement service involves two edits. The first edit focuses on essay structure, thesis statement strength, and essay flow. The second edit takes a more micro approach to correct grammar, change passive to active voice, and ensure best word choice. We cannot write your essay, but we can help you create the best ERAS personal statement possible.

ERAS Application
Many medical school applicants overlook the importance of well-written ERAS application with its resume-like requirement. Even stellar extracurricular experiences can be lost in a poorly written ERAS application. MDadmit helps you choose what activities to include and thoroughly edits the descriptions of each activity.

Each MDadmit ERAS application service involves two comprehensive edits.

Mock Interviews

MDadmit provides one-on-one residency mock interviews with a residency admissions expert. Dr. Miller has interviewed hundreds of applicants, served on a residency admissions committee, and knows what residency interviewers are likely to ask and how to provide the best responses.

Practice is the key to any successful residency interview. With MDadmit, you practice answering the most common and the most difficult residency interview questions. Each answer is thoroughly evaluated for both content and delivery. We help you use clear language, avoid slang, and remove unnecessary “ums” and “you knows” from speech. Each mock interview includes ethics and policy questions, which are becoming more common in residency interviews. A list of the most common and difficult residency interview questions will be provided to you post the mock interview session.

MDadmit residency interview preparation also involves advice on appropriate interview attire, body posture, and etiquette. In addition, we help you develop a post-interview strategy including thank you notes, update letters, and a letter of intent.

MDadmit residency school mock interviews are 60 minutes and occur via Skype. Audio recordings and/or written assessment of the mock interview are available. In-person interviews are available on a case-by-case basis.
