Post-Baccalaureate Admissions

Attending a post-baccalaureate program can be a great springboard to medical school admissions. With medical schools admissions getting more and more competitive, post-bac programs are getting more competitive as well. Some programs are even harder to get into than medical school!

Various types of post-bac programs exist depending on your needs and fall into three main categories:

1. All-inclusive, full-time programs for students who have not taken pre-med courses
2. All-inclusive, full-time programs for students who have already taken pre-med courses
and wish to increase their GPA (tend to be special masters programs)
3. Do-it-yourself programs at local colleges or universities

Figuring out which program is best for you can be quite tricky. MDadmit can help.

Admissions Consulting

MDadmit, led by Dr. Miller, will assist you with every step of the post-baccalaureate program admissions process. Given that each post-baccalaureate program has different application requirements, admissions advising is tailored to your specific needs.

The best way to start with MDadmit is to sign up for one of the Academic and Accomplishment Review + Strategy Sessions with Dr. Miller. Prior to this session, Dr. Miller will review your resume, transcripts, and any application materials you have prepared. The session can then be used in any way you like - to receive advice on where you stand and what you need to do to improve your chances of gaining admission, to ask specific questions, to determine where to apply, to strategize whom to ask for recommendations, to brainstorm the personal statement or resume, etc. Here are the items most commonly discussed in MDadmit's post-baccalaureate admissions consulting strategy sessions:

Essay Editing

Post-bac admissions committees read hundreds of applications each year. How will your application stand out? At MDadmit, we use an editing team led by Dr. Miller, a published author who has spent the last decade editing thousands of admissions personal statements and resumes. Unlike other editing services that simply provide general comments, MDadmit provides comprehensive edits and works closely with you to improve your writing skills.

Personal Statement
Most post-bac programs require a personal statement ranging from 500-1000 words. Though the exact essay question varies by school, most applications ask about your reasons for pursuing a career in medicine. In fact, the essay you write for post-baccalaureate schools will be quite similar to the personal statement you write for medical school admissions. Creating a compelling, creative, and honest post-bac personal statement is not an easy task. Our editing team helps turn your personal story into a unique and persuasive statement. The MDadmit post-bac personal statement service involves two edits. The first edit focuses on essay structure, thesis statement strength, and essay flow. The second edit takes a more micro approach to correct grammar, change passive to active voice, and ensure best word choice. We cannot write your essay, but we can help you create the best post-bac personal statement possible.

Resume
Most post-baccalaureate programs request a resume if some form. Even stellar experiences can be lost in a poorly written or formatted resume. MDadmit helps you choose what activities to include and thoroughly edits the resume for content, grammar, and format. The MDadmit resume service involves two comprehensive edits.

Mock Interviews

MDadmit provides one-on-one post-baccalaureate mock interviews with an admissions expert. Dr. Miller has interviewed hundreds of applicants and knows what post-bac interviewers are likely to ask and how to provide the best responses.

Practice is the key to any successful post-bac interview. With MDadmit, you practice answering the most common and the most difficult post-bac interview questions. Each answer is thoroughly evaluated for both content and delivery. We help you use clear language, avoid slang, and remove unnecessary “ums” and “you knows” from speech. Each mock interview also includes ethics and policy questions, which are becoming more common in post-baccalaureate interviews. A list of the most common and difficult post-bac interview questions will be provided to you post the mock interview session.

MDadmit post-baccalaureate interview preparation also involves advice on appropriate interview attire, body posture, and etiquette. In addition, we help you develop a post-interview strategy including thank you notes, update letters, and a letter of intent.

MDadmit post-bac mock interviews are 60 minutes and occur via Skype. Audio recordings and/or written assessment of the mock interview are available. In-person interviews are available on a case-by-case basis.
