Admissions Consulting

MDadmit is a highly-individualized, boutique medical admissions company led by Dr. Miller that will assist you with every step of the often confusing and stressful medical school admissions process. MDadmit provides medical school admissions consulting services to anyone considering applying to medical school whether you are still in high school, a college pre-med, or a non-traditional applicant heading back to school after years in the work force. Though it is certainly best to start early, MDadmit can give you an advantage at any stage of the admissions process.

The best way to start with MDadmit is to sign up for one of the Academic and Accomplishment Review + Strategy Sessions with Dr. Miller. Prior to this session, Dr. Miller will review your resume, transcripts, and any application materials you have prepared. The session can then be used in any way you like - to receive advice on where you stand and what you need to do to improve your chances of gaining admission, to ask specific questions, to discuss how to best prepare for the MCAT, to determine whom to ask for recommendations, to brainstorm the personal statement, work/activities, or secondary essays, etc. Here are the items most commonly discussed in MDadmit's medical school admissions consulting strategy sessions:

Application Analysis
MDadmit knows what medical school admissions committees look for in an applicant. Given her experience working as a Harvard pre-med tutor, admissions consultant, and professor, Dr. Miller has the inside knowledge to help you improve your medical school application and achieve success. Dr. Miller performs a thorough review of your academic, extracurricular, research, community service, and clinical activities and provides specific advice on how to enhance your application. An honest assessment of your chances of gaining acceptance to medical school is included in this process.

MCAT Timing
Fitting the MCAT into your busy schedule can be difficult. Given the looming MCAT2015 changes and current weight admissions committees place on the MCAT, maximizing your score should be a priority. MDadmit helps you determine the best time to take the MCAT accounting for your current commitments, plans to take a MCAT course, and temporal proximity to pre-medical classes.

Recommendation Selection
Recommendations are a vital yet often overlooked part of the medical school application. Deciding whom to ask for recommendations is only the beginning of this important process. Dr. Miller assists you with all aspects of obtaining medical school recommendations including whom, how, and when to ask.

Where to Apply
Medical school applicants often underestimate the competitiveness of medical school admissions and apply to fewer schools than required to maximize success. Dr. Miller creates a personalized and comprehensive list of school suggestions based on the strength of your application, learning style, long-term goals, and location desire. Advice on foreign and DO schools is also provided.

Waitlist Strategy
The wait list is a dreaded state of limbo faced by many medical school applicants. On the positive side, being "wait listed" means that you still have a chance of gaining acceptance. MDadmit works with you to develop a formal strategy, including letters of intent and strategic updates, to turn a wait list into an acceptance.

Final Decision
Deciding where to attend medical school can be challenging. MDadmit helps you choose a medical school based on your desired location, curriculum, student body, finances, and long-term goals.

Essay Editing

“Dr. Miller is an unbelievable editor. Without actually writing anything for you herself, she will take the best bits of the glob of chaos that you have regurgitated onto the page, wave her magic wand, and suddenly you will see that you are a better writer than you thought you were.”

The medical school admissions process involves a tremendous amount of writing. Medical school admissions committees read hundreds of applications each year. How will your application stand out?

At MDadmit, we use an editing team led by Dr. Miller, a published author who has spent the last decade editing thousands of medical school essays. Unlike other editing services that simply provide general comments, MDadmit provides comprehensive edits and works closely with you to improve your writing skills. MDadmit is able to assist with essays for all US medical school admission types, including AMCAS (MD), AACOMAS (DO), and TMDSAS (Texas), and for Canadian, off-shore, and other foreign medical schools.

AMCAS/AACOMAS/TMDSAS Personal Statement
The medical school personal statement is your time to shine. You have between 4500 and 5300 characters (depending on if you are applying to AMCAS, AACOMAS, or TMDSAS schools) to explain why you want to be a physician and why a medical school admissions committee should accept you into its medical school class. And you must do this in a compelling, creative, and honest way. Not an easy task! Our editing team helps turn your personal story into a unique and persuasive statement.

The MDadmit medical school personal statement service involves two edits. The first edit focuses on essay structure, thesis statement strength, and essay flow. The second edit takes a more micro approach to correct grammar, change passive to active voice, and ensure best word choice. We cannot write your essay, but we can help you create the best medical school personal statement possible.

AMCAS/AACOMAS/TMDSAS Work/Activities
Many medical school applicants overlook the importance of a well-written work/activities section. Even stellar extracurricular experiences can be lost in poorly written work/activities descriptions. MDadmit helps you choose what activities to include and thoroughly edits the paragraph descriptions of each activity. For the AMCAS application, MDadmit also advises on which three most meaningful activities to include.

Each MDadmit AMCAS/AACOMAS/TMDSAS work/activities service involves two comprehensive edits.

Secondary Essays
Medical school secondary essays can be incredibly overwhelming. After receiving your application, many medical schools send a secondary application, known as a “secondary,” often involving one to ten supplemental essays. If you have applied to 30 schools, you may be writing over a hundred secondary essays! TMDSAS and AACOMAS also involve secondary essays, often called "optional" essays, as part of the initial application.

MDadmit not only edits your secondary essays, but also helps you draft responses to each of the most common essay questions that can be used with multiple schools. This approach helps you create exceptional essays and reduce the stress of secondary season.

Given the varied length of medical school secondaries, MDadmit performs one comprehensive edit billed based on word count.

Letter of Intent/Update Letters/Thank You Notes
The medical school admissions process often involves writing letters outside of the standard personal statement, work/activities, and secondary essays. All communication with medical schools must be well written. A strategic post-interview strategy, including thank you notes and letter of intent/update letters can mean the difference between an acceptance and a rejection.

MDadmit edits your letter of intent, update letters, and thank you notes. Given the varied length of these correspondences, MDadmit performs one comprehensive edit billed based on word count.
